It's the worst kind of switch. His mom wasn't perfect, no one is, but she had loved him, and their town and she had tried and all she wanted to do was see him graduate and now she's not going to. And everyone keeps whispering about her and her fate like it's some kind of joke.

Tyler shrugs the hand off his shoulder, his body tensing more. It's not that he doesn't appreciate the gesture, but he doesn't trust himself right now.
