"Believe me, I've been telling him that for years. But does he listen when I try to encourage him to listen to something a little more you know, relevant? Not a chance."

"Yeah. I can."

But he's not sure what to think about that. If Caroline knew everything that happened -- she wouldn't want him anymore.

It's weird sometimes to think that she has a brother, always has, but now she knows it. It's another link to Ali -- but it's more than that. It's a secret her family has kept for years, and something she never knows what to do with. She and Melissa aren't close, these days they barely talk at a all anymore and when they do?

Well it isn't pleasant.

Spencer likes to think she's an island, but the truth is sometimes she misses having a stronger connection with her family.

She looks up when he speaks, nodding her head a little.

"I needed to clear my head a bit."

"Good, I guess. I don't really talk to Stiles much, but Scott says he's doing well. They all got out alive."

He's especially glad for Melissa, considering how easily she had taken him in when Derek kicked him out.

Caroline doesn't have to know everything. Benefit of Bela keeping her mouth shut. Also, benefit of Bela not being around all that often. At the same time, Bela knows that Caroline could forgive him eventually. He bit her once, and if she forgave that then she could forgive this.

But Bela doesn't actually consider things in a normal way, so it's probably more the first two.

"Must be nice. To have a life to go back to."

"Good," she nods. "That's the important thing, right?"

That rings true to Elena.

There's always been something of a dichotomy when it comes to how Tyler was viewed through the lens of high school popularity, and who he really was. She thinks if anyone ever really knew Tyler, it was Caroline. Jeremy probably caught glimpses here and there. Elena has known Tyler all her life, and that means something.

But she can't say she's ever really gotten to know him until now.

"Gathering inspiration?" she asks, having noted the sketchpad; she brings her knees to her chest as she looks ahead. The clear water and the taste of salt air. The waves crashing onto the shore. Elena hopes it brings him peace. She hopes there's a gift, somewhere amidst all the pain.

He expects the response.

Anyone that would go with him would be a little too trusting, in his mind. He gets why she's cautious, and doesn't fault her for it. Still, true to his word, Alek returns several minutes later with a first aid kit in hand.

"It's nothing fancy," he says with a sheepish, somewhat apologetic look. It's a tin box in which he's gathered things that he's needed when he gets into fights, to patch himself up before he gets home so his brothers don't ask too many questions.

"But I think it'll do the trick."

"I could say the same thing to you."

And she is a welcome sight. He doesn't know of the complexities of the relationship between her and Elena, and besides, Elena is more Ethan's best friend than she is Connor's. All he knows is talking to her over drinks was enjoyable, and they both took well the whole mistletoe thing.

"You meeting someone?" he asks, once he's caught up to her. He stands beside her and instinctively looks up to the tall, imposing Ferris wheel.

She doesn't know Connor that well but she's enjoyed the few conversations they've had well enough. And the fact that he had taken the whole mistletoe thing so well, and had even tried to help her avoid any more experiences like that that day.

At his question she shakes her head lightly. "No, not really. I'm on my own tonight."

She is most of the time here. Her brothers aren't here and other than Stefan she doesn't exactly have an abundance of friends.

Allison waits for him to come back -- wondering if he's even going to be. It's not like she knows him or anything. But she waits for a little while anyway.

And eventually he does come back. She smiles a little when he explains the kit he has.

"I'm sure it'll be more than fine."

[lockwood]

Tyler's often thought the only person who ever knew him at all was Caroline. Jeremy saw bits of it. Matt did occasionally, but that's about it. He's known Elena his whole life but they've never been close. They were in each other's orbits whether it be because of Matt or Caroline or whoever but they were never friends. Not really.

But slowly, it's been changing.

"Yeah, I guess. I don't know." He hasn't gotten far. It's been so long since he last sketched, he doesn't know where to start. But He can't help keep everything. He was hoping maybe if he could get those feelings on paper somehow that pain would ease.

If only just a little.

[lockwood]

He didn't choose to bite Caroline. He had been sirebonded, no choice -- but this was a choice. He's not sure he can forgive that, let alone here. But he can't lie to her either.

"Honestly? It's not much of one. If it weren't for Caroline I don't think I'd go back at all."

[enjoythe_ride]

"You're all going to be graduating soon, yeah? You could go to university? See the world. You have a lot of choices, and you have someone to do them with. That's not nothing."

He nods a bit at that. "I have to go meet Peter for something for a case, but why don't you meet me at that lounge you like later. We'll see where the night takes us."

Stealing something could totally still be on the table.

[hasperkynipples]

"Modern music isn't all it's cracked up to be. But if he's going to go old school he should at least respect the classics. Zeppelin. AC/DC. That kind of thing."

[easily]

She nods a little in agreement. "That sounds like a good plan."

It'll give her sometime to get ready first and then well -- whatever happens happens. If that ends up including stealing?

So be it.

He smiles as he leans in to kiss her again, trying to convey just how glad he is that she's home. As far as he's concerned, this can always be home for her, and it feels better when she's in it.

She leans in, letting her eyes close as she kisses him back. Even just being here with him eases the pain of what she's lost, if only just a little.

This is her home now, she doesn't plan on leaving again.

He holds the kiss for as long as he can before he breaks it, pulling back to look at her with a smile. "I'll let you settle back in, and I'll call you when I'm leaving the office."

"I'll be looking forward to it." At least it'll be a pleasant distraction, whatever trouble they end up getting themselves into.

He'll give her hand one last squeeze, before turning and heading towards the door. "I'll see you soon."

She smiles. "I'll see you then."

"Elijah sure as hell wants you there."

His manager steps into the back and Matt takes the opportunity to drop himself into one of the chairs at Rebekah's side. He keeps himself at a distance, but sitting down alleviates the need to lean over and speak in hushed, awkward tones and is less hell on his back. There are enough hours spent hunched over tables while he's cleaning them off and wiping them down without covertly speaking to his— Whatever Rebekah is to him. He hasn't decided whether she's actually become a something or if she's just someone he had a really great, fantastic summer with.

"You don't think it'll be worth it just to see if Klaus' kid comes out with horns and a tail?"

Jason turns to her when she nods like that, and there's a quite concern in his expression.

He couldn't ever be a good brother to Ali when he spent so much of it high, when he'd get so angry at her. Melissa's never around and not interested in being siblings. She wants to keep that secret, but it means something to him that Spencer is his sister.

And he doesn't want to let another sister down.

His hand rests on top of the trash can.

"Rough day?"
