So far Mystic Falls hadn't been that bad, and so far Kira had managed to go mostly unnoticed. All her teachers of course had pointed her out, but after that it had been easy enough to pretend to be invisible. Being the new girl itself was bad enough, but having everyone stare at her? That would be even worse.
She's been eating her lunch in whichever hallway is deserted, bringing something from home instead of going to the cafeteria. She would have eaten with her dad but he was usually busy in the staff room settling into his new job. As much as Kira loved her dad, the idea of him teaching at her school was kind of horrifying. There really should have been a rule against that sort of thing. Still at the same time it was kind of nice to know he'd be around. Just in case she ever needed him.
The idea of it being nice changed when history class finally started. Kira instantly had gone to the back of the room and had buried her head in her hands, hoping that no one would notice her.
"Good afternoon class," Mr Yukimura is all smiles as he entered the room. "My name is Mr Yukimura and I am your new history teacher. I'm sure by now you've all met my daughter Kira."
Kira can hear seats moving slightly as people turn around to look at her. She lifts her head slightly, and looks around the room. She tries to smile, she tries to give a half wave but well... awkward. She straightens and stares straight ahead at the chalkboard.
Mr Yukimura begins to lecture then, and Kira tunes him out. It's nothing personal against him, but really she doesn't want to be here. She wants to be back home - not her new home but her home home, where she was before.
Her dad's vice interrupts her thoughts. "Our first assignment will have you working in pairs. You may pick your partners..."
Kira can hear the chatter in the room, it's excited despite the fact it's over a project.
"Tyler," Mr Yukimura says. "Would you mind partnering with Kira? She doesn't know anyone yet and I think you two would get along very well."
Kira's jaw drops and her eyes widen in horror. She doesn't need to look around to see that the entire class is now looking at her. They all probably think she put her dad up to asking Tyler. She had noticed him earlier - how could she not? He was one of the popular kids, he was one of the jocks and also he was kind of - okay very good looking. She slumps down in her seat, hiding her face in her hands, wishing that a hole would come and swallow her up. Hoping that maybe Tyler will be a complete jerk and will say no and her dad won't push the subject.
