"I would of shown up sooner, but I couldn't afford to blow our cover."

Neal has worked hard to get on Marcel's good side. They can't just throw that away.

"Well, I appreciate that." He slides his arms around her waist to pull her in closer, a smile stretching across his face. "But I'm glad you're here now. I missed you."

She smiles back at him, resting her forehead against his. "I missed you too."

He stays there, holding her close for a moment and just taking it in before they have to put limitations on it. "How long can you stay?"

"At least a couple of hours, I think" Not as long as they'd like, but.

"Then we should probably make the most of them." He leans in to kiss her again, gently, before letting his lips drop to her shoulders. "Should I make dinner?"

She smiles a little at the suggestion. "I'd like that. It's been forever since you've cooked for me."

"Then let me see what I've got in the fridge." Even if he spends most of his time drinking blood now, he always keeps supplies around for cooking. It's still one of his favorite activities and he likes to indulge whenever he can. "There should be wine on the counter."

Rebekah goes to grab a couple of glasses, filling them up with wine. "So what's on the menu for tonight?"

He studies his options for a moment, before pulling back. "Chicken, fish or lamb?" Those are at least the options he has to start with, and he can go from there. "The shellfish I'm saving because there's a jambalya I'm going to try and figure out later this week."

She pauses for a moment, considering the three. Finally she settles on one. "Lamb." She's in the mood for something a little richer tonight.

"Lamb it is," he says with a nod, before pulling out the ingredients he would need for a flavorful lamb roast. "There should be a few nice reds on the rack, if you'd like to pick one."

Rebekah goes over to the rack, looking through her options before calling out. "How does the 2001 Syrah sound to you?"

"Perfect," he says with a nod as he starts preparing the lamb to be cooked. It can take a little longer than other meats, but with the single serve portions he's cut it down to, not as long as he could. "Anything interesting happening out on the plantation?"

She uncorks the wine and pours them each a glass as she nods her head. "Some witches tried to kill the baby -- luckily we were able to stop them. Apparently there was some prophecy of her being dangerous to witches."

"Don't witches always have prophecies about things being dangerous to witches?" Mostly because witches are probably the most persecuted area of the supernatural out there. "How do they know that the baby warrants murder?"

"Someone had a vision of something, apparently. I didn't get all the details." And frankly, didn't care. Her niece's safety is what mattered. As long as she and Hayley were safe, that's what was important. She'd hurt anyone, witch or otherwise, who interfered with that.

"Lovely. Visions always end well." His tone is dry but he's Team Rebekah all the way. If anyone tries to hurt Hayley, he'll be there to help her stop them. "Hopefully the witches will stay far away."

"Hopefully. If not, we'll take care of them." She promised Elijah she would keep Hayley and her niece safe and she does not take such promises lightly.

"Is there anyway that some of them could be persuaded away from the fanatics? Or is everything too anti-vampire in this town?"

"It depends -- if my brother keeps bringing negative attention to the vampires it might make it harder"

[alias_savant]

"True. But if that's the case then I'll start passing myself off more as a human. I'm good at disappearing when I need to." The benefit of having been on the run for most of his life is that he knows how to go to ground when the moment required.

"Just don't disappear too far." As long as she can find him, that's what matters.

"I wouldn't dream of it," he says, glancing back to her with a smile. "I would make sure you know where I'm going."

"Good, that's what I like to hear." Rebekah's lost too many people in her very long life, she doesn't want Neal to ever become another name on the list.
