Open Picture Prompt Post

An Open RP Post, with a ~twist~. Basically, I love picture prompts more than life itself, so this is what you do.

1. You choose one of your characters.
2. You leave me a picture prompt and/or what character of mine you're requesting (if you don't request a specific one, I turn the wheel of RP fortune or something like that).
3. I comment setting up a scenario inspired/based on the prompt

[Tyler can't linger. He knows all he's getting is a head start at best. But there's one person he needs to see other than Caroline before he leaves -- even if they haven't been as close as they used to be for a while. Matt's been his best friend since childhood. Matt stood by his side even when he was a complete jackass, he deserves better than just hearing about the disappearance from Caroline.

Which is why he drives to the Grill, and makes his way inside. He can't linger long, but it's something. He spots Matt, making his way over to him.]

Do you think you can take your break right now?

[ Matt's mid order. Matt's mid order with a particularly pushy sixteen year old and her cutesy friends he recognizes from school. The kind he used to go after. The fun, bubbly cheerleader. But he's changed. They've all changed. Him the least but he still sees a difference in himself. And that's why this is annoying and not flirtatious.

When Tyler comes up and interrupts him, he doesn't hesitate. He won't be fired and these girls can't decide on their order anyway. That, and Tyler's face tells a scary story. Something's wrong. And whether it's with the cure or Klaus. Matt wants to know. Being kept in the loop. It's new. And normally he keeps himself out of it but something changed in between Tyler dying but not really and Jeremy finding his calling he couldn't shake. Matt inserted himself into the drama. He helped Jeremy train. He helped Stefan dagger Rebekah (and then felt guilty about it afterwards.) Something is very wrong right now. Stone-faced, without turning, he answers Tyler. ]

Yeah, man.

[ He doesn't face Tyler. He just addresses the girls, lets them know he'll be back. They should take their time.

He sets down his apron on one of the empty stools (slow night) and leads Tyler out the front door. It's a cold winter night so there aren't any customers outside. Two of their classmates, a couple Matt recognize make their way past them and into the Grill. ]

What's up?

[ He wants to ask specific questions. Is it Klaus? Is it Jeremy? Is it the group racing for the cure? Or, the creepy professor guy he never trusted from afar? But, he needs it to be answered. For himself. ]

[Tyler stalls. He's had to do this before, say goodbye to Matt -- he did when he left town with Jules, when he thought he was never coming back. Sometimes, Tyler wishes he never had -- but when his mother was in the hospital it wasn't a question. Someone needed to be here to protect her. Not that he had done a good job at it.

Back then, he had told Matt how Caroline deserved someone like him. A lot's changed since then but he still thinks Matt's a generally better guy than him. He's still his best friend. He still hates that so much got in the way of that.]

I'm leaving town.

[It's simple and not all at once. There's an unspoken answer to this too: Klaus.]

I don't know when I can come back.

[ Stop stalling. Matt only lasts maybe thirty seconds before needing more information. ]

Dude.

[ Spit it out! And then Tyler drops that bomb. Again. Again. This is the third time. Wait, what? ]

What do you mean you don't know when you can come back? Is this a sire thing?

What? [Tyler gets confused.] I broke the sire bond a while ago. But it does have to do with Klaus.

[His expression grows more serious.]

Caroline was able to get him to agree to give me a headstart.

Yeah, I know tha - [ he stops. ] When doesn't it? What'd he do?

[ No. ]

A headstart? [ No... ] He isn't.

Ready to hunt me down and kill me? [It's said in a dry tone, because that's exactly what's going on here.]

Yeah, he is. I can't stay here.

Why? What -- what did you do? He's had his chance. You broke the sire bond weeks ago and he, what, all of a sudden wants you to pay for that?

He can't drive you out of town. You could stay at the Gilbert's. Or, somewhere he can't get in. You can stay at my place until we figure something else out. You can't just up and -- What about Caroline?

[ It hurts to mention her considering their mutual past with her but she should be considered in this decision. He may have lost her - and chosen to lose her - but he still cares about her. Matt's just the guy that will always care about his exes. ]

I also helped all his other hybrids break theirs too. And apparently killing them and my mother wasn't enough.

[You didn't really think she drunk drowned, did you Matt?]

And he's been invited into the Gilberts, and if I stayed at your house he would just burn it down. It's too risky, Matt. I'm not going to let anyone else get hurt because of me. You're all safer if I'm gone.

[He pauses.]

He almost killed Caroline. Because of me. Because I was goading her on. It's better for everyone if I leave.

[ The realization hits. Nobody ever really confirmed it. But, it makes sense. It sucks that the whole town would believe she drowned. ]

He -- is she -- fuck. [ Excuse him while he punches the front door. Fuck, fuck fuck, that hurt, he shakes his hand as it throbs and it didn't help anything. ] Why do we let him do this?! How did things get so fucking screwed up?

What the hell can we do to stop him? [Tyler words sound equally frustrated.] If we kill him, I die, more importantly, Caroline will die. So will Elena and the others, what the hell are we supposed to do, any time any of us try to stop him it just gets more fucked up.

Something. [ Understandably. ] We dessicate him again. This time, there's no Terminator Mr. Saltzman to go after him. I distract Rebekah... [ Feelings there, too. He'd feel guilty about it. ]

This isn't fair. Jeremy's off somewhere because he's some hunter and you're leaving. Everyone's in Canada. [ ARG ] I hate Canada. [ Just in this instance. And everything else. ]

You really think he's not expecting us to try that again? Perhaps even banking on it? [It's too risky. He can't just keep baiting Klaus and putting people at risk.]

No, you're right, it's not fair. But it's what I have to do. To stay alive, to make sure no one else gets hurt for me either.

How long will you be gone?

I don't know.

[ He takes a second, fighting back emotion before pulling Tyler in for a hug. ]

[Tyler is awkward for a moment, never one to be great with this stuff before finally, he returns the hug.]

[ And he'll step back. ]

Hey, be safe, man. [ Fuck, his tears are betraying him. ]

Of course. You too. [He pauses.] And make sure Caroline stays safe too. Just because he has his little crush or whatever on her doesn't mean she's not in danger.

We will.

Good.

I should get back inside.

And I should get out of town
